Looking Through Prophetic Eyes

Looking Through Prophetic Eyes

Prophecy- The function or vocation of a prophet; specifically: the inspired declaration of divine will and purpose. (Webster, 2011)
Prophet- One who utters divinely inspired revelations: as an often capitalized: the write of one of the prophetic books of the Bible. (Webster, 2011)

Is it possible for a man/woman to obtain the gift of prophecy? For many people with religious backgrounds, prophecy can be viewed as spiritual messages or conformation derived from God. While others who are not religious, view this as a metaphysical empowerment. The history of prophecy goes far back into time. During the biblical days prophets were not just fortune tellers, but men and woman who had a divine message from the Lord to give to his people. Throughout time, man has always sought various ways to predicting the future. There are several examples in the Bible in which prophets of the Old Testament predicted future events. Being a young woman of Christian faith, I find it unfortunate that there are people in this world who put their faith in psychics and other false prophets, instead of the all-knowing, loving God, Jesus Christ.

“Look, I am coming soon! Blessed are those who obey the words of prophecy written in this book.”( Revelation 22:7) God has blessed the human race with the Holy Bible so that we may live healthy, ever-lasting lives. In this particular scripture He lets us know that the end of time on Earth is near and only the people who obey his commandments and answer to the written prophecies accordingly will be saved. While researching for this paper I found evidence in several scriptures which spoke of prophecies that have already been or are currently being fulfilled. In Daniels 12:4, the Lord speaks to Daniel saying, “But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.”(Daniels 12:4) According to these directions to Daniel, neither Daniel nor any other person would be capable of properly understanding any end-of-time prophecies until “the time-of-the-end.” This means a new message will determine the coming of the time-of-the-end; a message that will not only feature things never perceived before, but one that could not have been determined by anyone preceding to the time-of-the-end. The answer to the apparent question, “when would the time-of-the-end arrive?” is well-defined here as, [when] “many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.” Twentieth century man’s widespread use of motor-powered vehicles to move speedily “to and fro” on land, water, and through the air, marked the fulfillment of the first sign to look for in determining the end of time. The second sign- “and knowledge shall be increased “- shadowed directly on the heels of the extraordinary transportation uprising when the twentieth century’s knowledge explosion quickly out distanced the sum of knowledge accumulated by all foregoing generations. Based off a chart of statistics referring to the rapid growth of the use of the internet world-wide, I found this to be a fulfilled prophecy.

From December 1995 to June 2011 the percentage of internet users increased from 0.4% (16 million users) to 30.4% (2,110 million users). (Source:www.internetworldstat.com- January 2008. Can a country be born in a day or a nation be brought forth in a moment? Yet no sooner is Zion in labor than she gives birth to her children." (Isaiah 66:8) This scripture in Isaiah leaves no room for uncertainty as to what this prophecy indicates. It explicitly compares Israel (Zion) to a woman in labor and undoubtedly states the nation's rebirth will occur within a day. As promised, Israel did actually become a united, independent nation for the first time since the days of King Solomon in just one day: May 15, 1948. All through history, it has never been known for a society to have been disseminated for ages and to later become united with their culture, religion, and language intact.

Before looking up these scriptures dealing with prophecy myself, Initially I was informed about these passages I used as prophetic evidence by Pastor Ollie Gray III. In November of the year 2011 I interviewed Pastor Ollie Gray over the phone. He is a pastor as Living Faith Christian Church in Waterbury, Connecticut and I found him to be a very useful source for this topic. While interviewing him I asked him several questions, what he believed to be the difference between a psychic and a prophet. He explained to me that God blesses every person with a gift and to be able to prophesy is one of them.

“A psychic may have the gift to see into the spiritual realm. If you don’t have Christ you will tap into the dark side of that realm. Just as the Lord will use your gift for good, Satan can attempt and be successful in using people’s gifts for evil. Without Christ a person can be lead astray to do such things.”(Pastor Ollie Gray III)
